Alien unveils new US DoD RFID-readiness kit

2011/11/29

Alien Technology has announced its new ''RFID Ready Kit'', packaged to assist supplier organisations in preparing to meet US Department of Defense (DoD) mandates for RFID tagging.

The RFID Ready Kit includes Alien EPC/RFID readers, antennas, and tags, as well as the necessary training, services, and information needed for the successful planning and deployment of RFID for the DoD mandate. 116.30.151.81 This article is copyright 2005 UsingRFID.com.

Customers are given a two-day RFID Academy training course that provides training in the real world, hands-on application of RFID. The academy offers full training on RFID from hardware and software, to assessment and experimentation in the Alien Customer Solution Center. As a follow-up to RFID Academy, an extra day of Alien Professional Services is also included.

Included in the kit is an Alien Gen2-Ready Reader with the option of the EPC Class 1 high-performance package (ALR-9780) or the EPC Class 0/1 flexibility package (ALR-9774). Both include a selection of 96-user-bit EPC Class 1 RFID labels, antennas and accessories. The software development kit (SDK) provides documentation including a hardware setup guide, reader interface guide (with API definitions), and hardware technical specifications. Sample source code is also included, as are royalty-free Java, Microsoft .NET and Visual Basic libraries.

The RFID Ready Kit Guide for DoD Compliance, included in the kit as standard, is a collection of relevant DoD-published information on RFID mandates, assembled by Alien Technology. The Guide provides a reference to documents regarding RFID policy and, when used in conjunction with the Alien RFID Ready Kit, the guide provides information to assist DoD suppliers in defining and deploying RFID operations. The guide contains:

US DoD RFID Policy - July 30, 2004
DoD Suppliers Passive RFID Information Guide, v6.0
Background on the Use of RFID in the DoD Supply Chain
DoD Frequently Asked Questions - December 2, 2004

The ALR-9780 RFID Ready package is currently available for US$6,990, and the ALR-9774 RFID Ready package is available for US$7,990.
