Livestock disease outbreak simulation for Thailand

     Advanced ID Corporation met last week with Thailand Government officials to demonstrate the capabilities of its RFID livestock identification and trace back technology under a disease outbreak simulation, as one of the final steps to procuring a significant contract.

     The demonstration was given to six government and corporate officials including Dr. Yukol Limlamthong, Director General, Department of Livestock Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and other representatives from the Thailand Animal Identification Program. 116.30.147.133 This article is copyright 2004 UsingRFID.com.

     The demonstration used Advanced ID''s DataTRAC cattle tags, handheld and stationary readers, and database. The demonstration showed the vital details necessary to pin-point the location of a diseased animal, right back to its herd of origin, and identifying each transitional location and point of contact. Approximately 200 head of cattle were used for the purpose of simulating a disease outbreak, to demonstrate the system''s ability to quickly locate diseased animals'' for immediate containment, quarantine or eradication.

     "Although our demonstration was done to show the virtues of our RFID identification and trace back system for large animals, government officials have indicated their intent to use it for them implementation of a poultry identification programme," said Seymour Kazimirski, chairman for Advanced ID Corporation.

     "Given Thailand''s Bird Flu crisis - which has led to human deaths, and is threatening to destroy poultry exports - we have been asked to provide Thailand officials with an implementation plan for livestock identification related to export license farms, transportation vehicles, and processing plants," continued Kazimirski.

     As previously reported, the Thailand Government has indicated its intent to implement a national identification and trace back system to minimise or eliminate the spread of disease as a matter of national health. Thailand officials have prioritised the identification of one million cattle to be acquired and lent to farmers, and have now indicated their intent to include dairy cattle as part of the initial identification. The implementation of an identification and trace back system for poultry is to be carried out in conjunction with Thailand’s requirements to identify cattle and hogs.

     "The purpose of the simulation was to demonstrate how our technology can deliver a complete solution for identification and trace back of diseased livestock," said Barry Bennett, president and CEO for Advanced ID Corporation. "We now have a complete identification and trace back solution for Thailand which uses our RFID hardware and software technology.
