RFID Custom Application Kit (ARCA) Introduced

2011/10/26

Alien Technology, an industry leader for Gen 2 Radio Frequency Identification
(RFID) products, today announced the Alien RFID Custom Application (ARCA) kit
that will allow users, for the first time, to implement custom applications on
Alien readers. Alien Channel Partners can now deliver more effective and better
integrated RFID solutions to end users, who will see a faster return on their
RFID investment.

Alien developed the application kit to accommodate the expanding list ofapplications for Gen 2 RFID.

Alien Channel Partners are discovering many new ways to use RFID technology and wanted the ability to adapt off-the-shelf

readers to new applications. The Alien RFID Custom Application Kit enables
partners to deliver more value, more quickly for emerging applications like
apparel inventory management, industrial manufacturing and IT asset tracking.

"We`re using Alien`s programming capability to implement features that our
customers need," said Toby Rush, President and CEO of Rush Tracking. "Alien`s
programming tools have made it easier for us to implement RFID solutions that
harmonize with our customers` existing processes."

"We`ve had ARCA in beta for several months and partner feedback has been very
positive," said Scot Stelter, Director of Product Marketing for Alien. "Our
channel partners find that they can quickly deliver new features they need to
penetrate new applications. This highlights the continuing trend away from the
lab and toward market-driven commercialization of RFID."

"We are using the ARCA product on an upcoming apparel pilot to implement a
custom interface with the ALR-8800 reader," said Vlasis Tsezos, Engineering
Manager at Business Effectiveness, a provider of RFID integration services and
supply chain solutions in Greece. "This capability will help us deliver more
function to our customers with less effort."

Alien selected Ruby, a stable, flexible, object-oriented programming language
because it allows users to rapidly develop cross-platform applications. Beta
users have found Ruby to be easy to master. Coupled with the Alien Reader
Protocol, Ruby provides a feature-rich, highly adaptable platform for
implementing RFID solutions. Functions that partners can implement through Ruby
include RFID data preprocessing, application-specific triggering modes and
custom communication channels with server-side applications.

The Alien Ruby Programming Kit will be available on May 30 for a one-time cost
of $299. Terms and conditions apply. Users who purchase the kit will be able to
develop custom applications for the ALR-9900, ALR-9650, ALR-9800 and ALR-8800
RFID readers.
