Technology? Demonstrates Support For Microsoft BizTalk RFID

2011/10/31

Demonstrating its support for the Microsoft BizTalk RFID platform, Alien Technology Corporation is collaborating with Microsoft Corporation and Xterprise Incorporated to showcase a scalable “live” production deployment for asset tracking and real-time visibility at the enterprise edge during the RFID Journal LIVE! conference and exhibition in Orlando, Florida this week. Built atop the Microsoft BizTalk RFID platform using Alien? RFID devices, the deployment, a solution called iSUM developed by Xterprise, will be presented at the RFID@Work Demonstration Center as well as demonstrated at the Microsoft booth (booth # 901) during the conference.

iSUM provides a scalable, high performance platform for tracking assets across the supply chain, and for enabling organizations to orchestrate supply chain visibility solutions at the edge of the enterprise in a simplified and cost effective manner. Developed collaboratively by Alien Technology and Xterprise and deployed at Orlando-based logistics-leader iGPS (Intelligent Global Pooling Systems), iSUM takes advantage of the extensive plug-and-play capabilities of the BizTalk RFID platform for building and managing rich solutions that connect real-time business processes with intelligent edge devices, combined with the high performance, flexibility and robustness of Alien Enterprise RFID Readers.

"The confluence of enterprise-class Gen 2 RFID readers, highly capable infrastructure software such as BizTalk RFID, and implementation of best practices developed in collaborative settings will be essential to the continued rapid global adoption of RFID,” said Susan Pearson, VP Alliances, Alien Technology. “The iSUM application sums up the value of this convergence and we look forward to presenting its substantial business benefits at RFID Journal LIVE!”

"We have worked closely with Alien and Xterprise to implement BizTalk RFID and Alien RFID readers in the iSUM application,” said Steve Sloan, senior product manager in the Connected Systems Division at Microsoft. “This solution easily and cost-effectively connects edge devices such as RFID readers with enterprise systems and processes. iSUM provides a compelling example of how enterprises, systems integrators and ISVs can build and deploy enterprise-scale RFID solutions using customers’ existing Microsoft Windows and .NET Framework investments to deliver customer value.”

iSUM will be presented at the RFID Journal LIVE!’s RFID@Work Demonstration Center in a session entitled “The iGPS Asset Tracking Deployment in Review: Visibility Solutions at the Edge.” Open to all conference attendees, the session is scheduled for May 1, 4:00pm and May 2, 2:45pm.
